"Getting to the top is optional. Getting down is mandatory." - Ed Viesturs
Rappelling is a core competency for any outdoor climber. Learn how to rig and deploy an extended, backed-up rappel using current industry standard best practices with equipment that’s already on your harness. With plenty of time for hands-on practice you’ll leave feeling confident in your skills to rappel independently. We’ll also cover additional rappel techniques as time and interest allow, such as: stacked rappels, counterbalanced rappels, tandem rappels, Reepschnur rappels, and counter-ascensions.
Equipment: Everything is included, but we encourage participants to bring their own gear (harness, helmet, climbing shoes, assisted-lock belay device, personal anchor system, and third-hand backup) if they have it to gain comfort and familiarity.
Prerequisites: No prior experience necessary
***Participants must be registered for the Quartzite Classic Festival to join this course. Note: This course will not run if fewer than 5 students enroll***
