establish a strong foundation of outdoor climbing skills

Adult Climbing Camp helps participants unplug from their routines, meet like-minded climbing partners, and expand their outdoor climbing experience in a supportive environment with professional instructors.

Participants will have the opportunity to climb a variety of routes each day, varying in location, style, and difficulty. Technical instruction will be tailored to the skill level and interest of the group. We have enough instructor that we can break up into smaller groups on any given day, if appropriate. Together, we’ll spend time exploring:

Technical Skills

  • Belaying (Top Rope & Lead)

  • Rappelling

  • Anchor Building

  • Padding & Spotting

Disciplines

  • Top-Rope Climbing

  • Bouldering

  • Traditional Lead Climbing

Outdoor Recreation

  • Hiking

  • Swimming

  • Scrambling

Outdoor Living

  • Camping

  • Cooking

  • Creating Comfort

  • Community Building

The best part was walking away from the last day feeling way more confident than I was expecting in my skills. Another best part was realizing setting anchors is fun! They simplified and demystified the anchor building process.”

Agenda

Climbing Camp is a chance to focus on yourself. Whether that means building toward personal climbing goals, expanding your technical skill set, or just enjoying a week of outdoor climbing and camaraderie, we support you! Each day we’ll venture into the beautiful quartzite rocks to explore the various climbing styles available at Devil’s Lake.

The daily agenda is not predetermined. Instead, we customize it to suit participants’ interests. Plan to climb from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM most days, leaving plenty of downtime in the evenings to go for a dip in the Lake, take a sunset hike up the bluffs, relax in a hammock with an engaging book, or enjoy a game with friends. In the evenings we’ll gather around the campfire to share experiences, food, and laughter.

During camp participants will learn, practice, and expand their climbing skills under the guidance of professional instructors. By the end of the week, most climbers will:

  • Feel more comfortable navigating new outdoor climbing routes, improving climbing movement and efficiency.

  • Explore a variety of climbing disciplines including top-roping, bouldering, and rappelling.

  • Be more familiar with popular crags and routes at Devils Lake.

  • Master foundational skills such as belaying, tying-in, and communication.

  • Have a basic understanding of required climbing equipment and how it works.

  • Identify common risks and implement climbing safety practices.

  • Understand accepted norms, etiquette, and best practices at a climbing crag.

  • Develop a concrete plan for moving toward self-guided climbing.

  • Enjoy budding belay-tionships to continue their climbing journey with.

Register
From the moment I arrived, I felt such a strong sense of being wanted/valued. Our instructor was patient, knowledgeable, and welcoming. She really took the time to understand the needs of the group and make sure that everyone felt safe and supported. She has a very calming presence which was helpful as this was my first time rock climbing.

Logistics

DEMOGRAPHICS: This camp is intended for adults ages 18+. No prior climbing experience is necessary! Previous exposure to rock climbing and outdoor living are helpful, but not required. We work with participants who are already “climbers” and want to further their strength and skills outside, as well as those who are just getting started in the climbing world.

REQUIREMENTS: Adult Climbing Camp can be an intense experience. Participants should be in good physical condition, as we will be actively camping, hiking, and climbing five days in a row.

CAMPING: Camping at our group site is included with registration, though participants must provide their own camping equipment. Our campsite will be available starting Sunday at 4:30 PM. We will break camp in the morning on the final day of the camp. Tents and small camper vehicles are welcome, but space is limited, so please no RV’s (there are no hook-ups).

MEALS: Three meals a day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) are included in camp, starting with Sunday’s dinner and ending with Friday’s lunch. Daily grocery runs to Baraboo allow us to make fresh, nutritious meals while accommodating to a wide variety of dietary restrictions/preferences. We will collaborate in the kitchen by planning, prepping, cooking, and cleaning the meals in small groups. We will provide myriad snacks, though we encourage participants to supply their own favorites.

LOCATION : Participants will meet at the group camp (exact location shared upon registration) on Sunday (6/28) at 4:30 PM. The daily agenda will be determined by group goals, weather, and crag availability.

EQUIPMENT: We provide any necessary climbing equipment, though students who have their own are encouraged to bring and gain comfort with it (so long as it is in good condition). Participants must supply their own camping equipment. View our packing list for more details.

I felt very engaged by all of the instructors and I felt they did very well at meeting everyone where they were at. I learned so much!
