
Guest Lead Climbing Instructor
Guest Lead Instructors facilitate climbing experiences and teach fundamental rock climbing skills for special event participants. They may also help facilitate other event activities as agreed upon, including, but not limited to: camp setup/breakdown, event check-in, mini-clinic instruction, and camp hosting.
Guest Instructors are invited to instruct on per-event basis and should not expect consistent work throughout the guiding season.

Roles
Leads rock climbing trips or courses of up to 5 people independently.
Leads larger climbing trips or courses with the help of one or more Apprentice or Assistant Instructors.
Manages risk with vision and poise.
Maintains personal and company equipment
Mentors Assistant and Apprentice instructors toward healthy skills, pedagogy and character development
Communicates with clients via email and/or phone before the event to set the stage for success
Discusses, learns and develops clients goals.
Delivers an experience or curriculum consistent with our product marketing
Creatively adapts general curriculum for the specific needs of individuals and/or the group as a whole, as appropriate
Fills additional event roles as agreed upon with Event Coordinator.
Availability
DLCG holds a limited number of special events each year from April through October, each with different staffing needs. Guest Instructors share their general availability in the application, and DLCG will reach out on an event-by-event basis.
Qualifications
AMGA Single Pitch Instructor certification (or equivalent)
Wilderness First Responder certification (WFR)
Previous commercial guiding experience
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
Contract Employees must also:
Hold liability insurance
Hold a permit to guide commercially at Devils Lake State Park
Compensation
Guest Lead Instructors may be hired on as a W2 employee of Devils Lake Climbing Guides or may opt to work on a contractor basis if they meet the above listed qualifications.
cONTRACT EMPLOYEE
$225/day (approx. 9 hours)
$25/hr for additional event shifts
W2 EmPLOYEE
$200/day (approx. 9 hours)
$22.22/hr for additional event shifts
tRAVEL sTIPEND
For instructors driving more than 100 miles one-way from their homes. DLCG will pay ½ x the current IRS mileage rate x round-trip mileage.
For instructors flying more than 500 miles one-way from their homes, DLCG will reimburse their airfare, up to $450. Please provide airfare receipts.
