Catering Assistant

Catering Assistants (CAs) support the Chef in delivering delicious, nutritious, and aesthetic meal experiences to clients. They prepare, transport, serve, and store food, and they also clean and maintain food service equipment to industry-recognized hygiene standards. CAs may also receive additional training toward becoming a Special Events Chef in accordance with their interests and experience.

Catering Assistants are hired on a per-event basis and should not expect consistent or frequent catering work throughout the season.

  • Comfortable utilizing general kitchen equipment (knives, ovens, stovetops, chaffing dishes, etc)

  • Delivers friendly service and anticipates client needs

  • Maintains a hygienic person and work space

  • Takes direction and feedback well

  • Adapts easily to a dynamic work environment with irregular hours

  • Solves problems creatively and efficiently

Roles

  • Assists Chef in preparing food and beverage items

  • Follows industry-established food safety best practices under guidance of Chef

  • Maintains sanitary food preparation and service areas

  • Packages and stores food in accordance with food safety best practices

  • Transports food from production area to service line

  • Follows Chef’s direction, but also makes independent decisions based on personal judgment when appropriate

  • Stocks and maintains food service buffet, ensuring cleanliness, temperature regulation, and reducing cross-contamination

  • Proactively communicates client dietary needs or food safety concerns with Chef

  • Communicates and enforces food safety expectations with diners

  • Sets up and refreshes dishwashing station

  • Cleans food preparation and serving equipment

Availability

DLCG holds a limited number of special events each year from April through October, each with different staffing needs. Catering Assistants share their general availability and interests for any particular event, and the Event Chef will reach out to coordinate shift work.

Qualifications

  • Experience preparing food in large quantities, whether at home or in a commercial environment is preferred. But, we can work with anyone that has a learning mindset and positive attitude!

Compensation

Catering Assistants may be hired on as a W2 employee of Devils Lake Climbing Guides or may opt to work on a contractor basis if they if they have their own business and insurance. Current DLCG employees will be paid their hourly guiding rate.

W2 Employees - $15 - 20/hr depending on experience

Contract Employees - $20 - 25/hr depending on experience
