Learn to climb outdoors on the real rock cliffs of Devil’s Lake State Park! Whether you have developed some indoor climbing skills already or will be climbing for the very first time, all WI Badgerland Girl Scouts ages 9+ are welcome! Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors may all enroll.

You need to be able to hike about 20 minutes up a steep trail, but you don’t need to have prior climbing experience. Devils Lake Climbing Guides’ certified instructors will create a supportive environment to learn and cheer each other while finding your path up the wall, practicing creative problem solving, and connecting with nature. Climbing outside builds confidence, trust, fitness, and camaraderie - you’ll never forget this adventure!

Devil’s Lake Climbing Guides’ team of certified instructors will set up anchors and ropes, provide harnesses, helmets, and climbing shoes for anyone who needs them, and provide instruction as needed on belaying, climbing technique, knots, technical topics, Leave No Trace, and more.

Time: 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Plan to arrive 15 minutes early to check in.

Who’s invited? Badgerland Girl Scouts members ages 9+. Parent chaperones may join to watch, but must sign a waiver, wear a climbing helmet (DLCG can provide), and comply with instructor guidance. Please indicate if a parent plans to attend upon enrollment.

Prerequisites: No prior climbing experience needed! Must be able to hike approximately 20 minutes up steep grade and navigate in uneven terrain.

Bring:

  • Closed-toed hiking shoes

  • Backpack (20-30 liters). Please no drawstring bags

  • Lunch/snacks

  • 2+ liters of water

  • Layers appropriate for the weather

  • Personal care supplies: sunscreen, bug spray, bathroom supplies, medications
