First Ascent Youth Rock Climbing Days
Saturday July 12 & Saturday August 9th, 2025Hello First Ascent athletes and families! Want to climb outdoors at Devil’s Lake State Park this summer? DLCG and FA have developed two exclusive outdoor rock climbing trip opportunities for your teams for 2025. These are full-day, outdoor top-rope rock climbing trips at Devil’s Lake State Park, offered exclusively for First Ascent youth ages 6 - 17 and their adult family members. And yes, camping opportunities are available!
Who’s Invited?
First Ascent youth recreational climbers and team members ages 6 - 17. Any participant under 10 years old MUST have an adult chaperone.
Adult family members may also enroll to climb. Adults who do not wish to climb may join to watch, but must sign a waiver, wear a climbing helmet (DLCG can provide), and comply with instructor guidance. If you plan to attend but not climb, please include a note when you enroll your athlete, so we know to expect your forms and pack an extra helmet.
Agenda
DLCG instructors will:
set up anchors and ropes
provide equipment harnesses, helmets, and climbing shoes for anyone who needs them
provide instruction as needed on belaying, climbing technique, knots, technical topics, Leave No Trace, and more

Prerequisites
Some climbing experience required, but no prior outdoor experience needed.
Bring
Closed-toed hiking shoes
Backpack (20-30 liters)
Lunch/snacks
2 liters of water
Layers appropriate for the weather
Sunscreen/bug spray
Climbing helmet / harness / shoes (if you don’t have them, we can provide)
Camping Options
Camping options are available Friday, Saturday, or both evenings at Devil’s Lake State Park for climbers and their family members. Cost is $10/person/night. Be sure to add the option before checking out. Campsite number will be shared upon enrollment. Camping equipment is not included.
Minimum enrollment
Each trip has a minimum enrollment of 8 climbers. If a trip fails to meet this enrollment 6 weeks prior to the start date, the trip will be cancelled and you will receive a full refund.
How to enroll
Do not use Quantity field to sign up multiple people. Add one person to cart at a time!
Select your climbing date from the drop down menu and click “enroll” to enter the participant’s name.
Use the back button to navigate back to this page if adding more climbers or campers. Repeat step 1 for each climber.
Select your camping date from the drop down menu and click “purchase” to enter the camper’s name.

Once you’ve selected all your options, click the Cart icon to view your cart, confirm your order, and process your payment.
We will then send full confirmation materials via email.
