Lead Climbing Instructor

Lead Instructors teach fundamental rock climbing skills to myriad groups of friends, families and organizations. They also teach aspiring climbers technical skills in our Climbing Anchors, Lead Climbing and custom technical courses.

Roles

  • Leads rock climbing trips of up to 4 people independently.

  • Leads larger climbing trips with the help of one or more assistants.

  • Communicates with clients via email and/or phone before trips to set the stage for success.

  • Discusses, learns and develops clients goals.

  • Creatively visions a tailored daily agenda for each client and revises and adapts as the day unfolds.

  • Chooses terrain appropriate to client/trip/course goals and adapts as necessary.

  • Manages risk with vision and poise.

  • Actively reaches out to community members to build goodwill amongst the climbing community and beyond.

  • Mentors assistants and apprentice instructors toward healthy skills, pedagogy and character development.

  • Expands terrain knowledge and improves technical and movement skills in personal time.

  • Maintains personal and company equipment.

Availability

April - October, weekends mandatory, up to one week/month unpaid time off if scheduled in advance

Qualifications

AMGA Single Pitch Instructor (or greater), Wilderness First Responder (WFR), 2+ years commercial guiding experience

Compensation

$200/day + standard employee benefits
