Wilderness First Responder
I spent my younger years in rural central Wisconsin. Though our landscape was mostly farm country, my mom always found outdoor adventures for my family. Summers included bike rides on the Sparta-Elroy trail, camping in beautiful Wisconsin state parks, and backpacking the Superior Hiking Trail. When snow fell, you could find us alpine skiing in the Porcupine Mountains, ice skating under the stars, or snowshoe picnicking in the woods. In high school, competitive running and Nordic skiing took over when I fell in love with camaraderie amongst teammates and friends from neighboring schools.
I attended Marquette University in Milwaukee where I majored in Elementary-Middle School Education and Spanish. I continued my athletic pursuits collegiately and competed on the Cross Country and Track & Field teams. I continued to adventure with my family over summer breaks, traveling to places like Glacier National Park and the Adirondack Mountains, and I worked at YMCA summer camps in Wisconsin and New York. It wasn’t until I met my (now) husband that I learned folks outside my family shared my interest in the outdoors.
After college, my husband and I were drawn to the mountains and moved to Boise, Idaho. During our six years out West, rock climbing and mountain biking dominated our outdoor explorations. I taught K-8 Spanish and coached middle school cross country. My work as an educator reaffirmed my passion for strong community and helping youth discover their strengths. After moving to Madison in 2018, I couldn’t be more thrilled to connect with Devils Lake Climbing Guides working as a Summer Adventure Day Camp Director. Let the adventures begin!
