When Nick moved to Madison from his time guiding in Utah, he wanted to share his love of climbing with everyone he know and often offered to take everyone out for a day of climbing at Devil's Lake. I regularly escape to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and have backpacked quite a bit, but had never been climbing. Honestly, I wasn't excited about the idea. Nick's exuberance for climbing, his outdoorsmen's jaw, and my wife's encouraging nagging eventually wore me down and I accepted the climbing invitation.
Once we were out there on the rock, I was sold. I've engaged with nature in various ways over many activities, but never as a puzzle to be solved with the movement of my body. Trying to solve that puzzle, in a beautiful setting, is a lot of fun.
